Thoughts on Torchwood, a few days before I see it.
I'm trying to get excited for Torchwood, I really am. I mean, supposedly there's a lot of The Gay. And I can be hopeful enough at the beginning that they mean it for real, as opposed to "The Gay Because Taken Over By an Alien" or "The Gay Because of Mind Control" or "The Gay for a Day" or whatever else it generally is on American TV. (As usual, when I refer to "The Gay," I'm satirically referring to any sexuality that isn't heterosexual, but it's easier to type "The Gay," and funnier in my own head.)

But The Gay itself won't sell a show to me, and I've never really been the biggest fan of Captain Jack. Blasphemy, I know. He's okay, and I liked him as a companion for a few episodes, but I don't know if I can deal with him for an entire series, let alone one with him as the focus. So I'm hoping the plots are interesting (I assume the writing will be good) and the other characters don't suck. I may form a mild crush on Eve Myles/Gwen Cooper, 'cause... she's Welsh and and ass-kicker. Rrrowr.

I'm also mildly in love with my new default icon. I'd marry it if people could marry icons.

It's late, so I'm being gay. Haha. Get it?
"To spill about whether a character currently on the island is gay would be at cross-purposes to our mission of keeping the characters' backstories shrouded in mystery. That's not saying any are… or aren't. But in the case of Ana Lucia, we will go on the record and say that her character is straight." - From Here

Hm, yeah. So you don't want to talk about whether a character's gay or not 'cause it'd ruin things, but you do want to talk about how Ana Lucia is straight? Okay.

Personally, I don't care. I'd rather someone less "obvious" were gay (or bisexual). Like the New Blonde Woman. Or Michael. But saying "shrouded in mystery" is a lot like "it's a non-issue in the future." Or, at least to me is. I'll admit that I may be a little bit sensitive about the portrayal (or lack thereof) of gay people in large ensemble dramas. You know.

In other "gay" news, wtf? A Bad Girls musical? Awesome.

And I didn't TiVo Bianca's return to All my Children, 'cause Quantum Leap was higher on my season pass list than AMC. Sigh. Hope I didn't miss the 30 seconds of talk about Maggie that I'll sit through 3 more weeks for. (And, what do you mean Kendall and Greenlee kissed? Damnit!) I don't get SoapNet here. Not sure what's up with that.

I do get BBC America, though, so I'll finally get to see Bad Girls S2 as more than just teeny little Real Media files. Huzzah.

I remain shamelessly addicted to South of Nowhere. I wonder what happened tonight! I'm ever so excited!

I think I should probably go to sleep now.
